You know those moments that really fill your cup? Give you so much excited energy and you feel giddy about for days?

This was one of those shoots…

I didn’t really have the option to have a maternity shoot when I was expecting Marnie. The later months were over the winter of 2020-21, and we were being so cautious. Covid was still somewhat of an unknown quantity and we wanted to be extra safe to protect baby.

Each time I do a maternity shoot, it feels that extra bit special - knowing that I am capturing a very unique and magical time in the life of the Mum / lives of the parents. Sometimes Mum chooses to be photographed just her and bump (or with older siblings too) - a wonderful Motherhood shoot to celebrate the miracle of growing life. And sometimes it is a couple’s shoot or the whole family too.

Whichever way a family chooses to be captured, I always like to spend some time focussing just on Mama. Pregnancy can be a really tough journey, both physically and mentally. I recall hearing this before I was expecting Marnie and couldn’t have predicted just how much of a journey it would be! That’s exactly why I think it is important to celebrate Mama on her own - show the beautiful changing body, the bond with bump, the wonderful, eager anticipation of the new arrival.
