Lake District Family Photographer // R + R at Rydal

Lake District Family Photographer sharing her thoughts and images from a recent family shoot at Rydal Water in the Lake District.

Ok, I think I’ve found one of my favourite, family-friendly spots in the Lake District for a family shoot. In October, I met this lovely family at this perfect spot at Rydal water. There is so much variety in a small area which means we can pop the bags down and stay in one place, but get lots of backdrops for photos. 

The main attraction is the water side - a stunning backdrop over Rydal Water with the overhanging trees and the rolling fells in the background. Surrounding one of the large, sprawling trees are lots of steeped stones and exposed roots - making it a beautiful spot to sit with the whole family for lovely, relaxed portraits. There’s a small field area with tall grasses which is gorgeous - especially for some motherhood shots. And open grassland. Not to forget the lovely bridge over the river where you can play Pooh sticks with the littles.

From the road (where you can park), it is only a couple of minutes’ walk to the spot. Whilst it isn’t necessarily pram friendly, it’s easy to navigate with a toddler and/or a baby in a toddler, or older kids of course.

I couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out - and this spot is going straight to the top of the list for Lake District family shoots with younger families.
