Are You Always Behind the Camera?

Family Photo of Mother and Baby

Are you, like me, always the one behind the camera? Is your other half a reluctant photographer? Or, let’s face it, are their photos just a bit crappy bless them?! Do they not think to capture lovely, real moments between you and your little ones?

My husband, Mark, is not a keen photographer. Every now and then when Marnie is doing a funny little dance or being particularly cute, he’ll grab his phone to take a photo. But he just wouldn’t think to document the times where he walks past the nursery and I am reading Marnie her pre-nao book (Rabbit’s Nap, Julia Donaldson is a winner). Or when we are sat face to face on the rug sharing my bagel (I can never eat alone without the labrador-like 9 month old begging). Or when we’re dancing to Ella Fitzgerald in the kitchen. It just isn’t his thing!

I don’t have many photos of the little interactions between me and my daughter. Solution? I booked a family shoot of my own. I chose Soraya Evans who is an incredible family photographer based in Prestwich. We met at a course three years ago and I’ve followed her wonderful work, and kept in touch from time to time, since.

Mark and I sat down together to go through our gallery and we had tears in our eyes by the end. It really captured us as a family; Marnie and I together, Mark and Marnie, Mark and Totoro (our Russian Blue), Totoro and me, and us all together. They showed Marnie’s adorable, quirky and determined little character, and I will cherish them forever. I am so grateful for them.

This is what I strive to give to my families too - capturing those emotions and memories for a lifetime. I already struggle to remember exactly what Marnie was like as a newborn, or as a five month old. Time flies by and they move on to the next stage so seemlessly and quickly that photos, to me, feel like the only way to pause time.

So if you are the one behind the camera, consider booking a shoot of your own. I am sure they will bring you a whole load of joy as you share them with your family, see them on your wall every day, and look back on them in years to come.

If you’re the one who’s other half is always asking for photos to be taken, why not surprise them with a shoot? A sure fire way to put the biggest smile on their face.

Memories you can share and keep forever are the best investment!
