A Family on their winter family shoot in Didsbury

I have had lots of messages lately from people saying they’d love to book in a shoot in the summer. If you’re a summer person, great - totally wait until your fave season! However, don’t feel like you have to wait until the summer months to get a beautiful shoot.

I’m here with a few words and images to sell you on the beauty of winter.

Ok, I am definitely one of those people who loves something about every season. Blooms and soft warm sunshine in spring. The long, hazy days in summer. All the cosiness and hygge in autumn. And the crisp, fresh bare beauty of winter.

There is something so magical about bare trees and frost. When nature powers down to regenerate and rest before it blooms again in spring. It is a time to get super cosy, wrap up warm, get your wellies on and go crunching the icy leaves underfoot. The winter sunshine just hits different and help create some really beautiful images.

The outdoor spaces are much quieter in winter meaning you can relax more and not worry about strangers being in shot - or having to keep waiting for dog walkers to pass.

The shorter days also mean you don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn for soft morning light, or stay up past bedtime for the lovely evening light. In fact, it is much easier to shoot at any time of the day throughout winter!

At Home in Didsbury and Out.

And winter shoots don’t have to mean just being outdoors - it is the perfect time for a split shoot. We can start off in the cosiness of your own home, getting some lovely images in your favourite place. Then all wrap up and head out into nature.

Or the other way around - we can meet outdoors for some fun, relaxed photos, then back home to get cosy with hot chocolates - what is better than that feeling after a chilly walk?!

Family Shoot at Home in Didsbury then Marie Louise Gardens, Didsbury.

That’s exactly what we did on this gorgeous shoot. At home first with the latest, little squishy addition to the family - capturing those lovely cuddles and details. Then heading out to a very frosty Marie Louise gardens. One of my favourite local parks and a place a like to shoot often. We even had our own family shoot (film) done there in Autumn 2023.

…..

So, before you dismiss winter as a time to have a family shoot, consider whether this might actually be the best option for you!
