MANCHESTER FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER // What to do with your photos after your shoot…

Manchester Family Photographer’s thoughts on what you can do with your beautiful images after your shoot, to make the most out of, and enjoy, them.

You’ve had your family shoot, you’ve received your gallery which you’re in love with… now what? Here are some ideas about what to do with your images now.

FIRST

The most important thing to do first is to download your whole gallery and back it up. So get them on your computer / external hard drive AND back them up to cloud based storage. Tech can fail, and losing family photos is devastating.

Now for the more exciting parts!

FRAMES

Get your photos in frames and on the wall asap! We all know that putting off a job makes it harder to ever get around to. So bite the bullet, find some lovely frames that you like and suit your images and home, and get them up on the wall. If you’d like to keep things simple, I’m a fan of the easy Ikea frames which you can get in loads of different sizes!

You can display them together in a set of three side by side, four in a square, or mixed up in a gallery wall - or any other configuration that works for the space you have.

I love to have my favourite family images from our own family shoots in places where I’ll see them the most. I have a set of four images in black and white in a square formation on my kitchen wall. I get so much joy out of seeing them every day - and they look beautiful too! The photos are just getting more precious with time too as I see how much Marnie grows and reminisce about how teeny she was.

LARGE PRINT

Order a large print to hang on your wall! Choose your favourite image and treat yourself to a large print of it to pop on a wall in your home as a centrepiece.

Or choose several smaller images in a large frame for just as an impactful piece of art on your wall!

I sell both loose prints and ready to hang prints, so please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to order.

DIGITAL

Digital photos frames are making a comeback. You have, say, 60 images from your shoot and you just love them all - they tell a story of your family and you want to be able to see that story play out. What a great way to do this with a digital photo frame. You pop all your images on a memory card, pop it into the frame and see them slowly scroll through your favourite pics.

ALBUM

I have beautiful fine art albums available to buy (and are included in the Spritz and High Tea packages) - these are stunning heirloom quality albums which show off the images in their best form and will last forever.

If you’re not in the market for a fine art album, you can always make your own! Print your images at a reputable printers - like DS Colour Labs. If you print your images at places like Boots / Tesco / Freeprints, the colour grading will be off, they won’t look their best and they won’t last. I’m not suggesting high grade fine art prints for a photo album, but good quality photographic prints will work best.

Choose whether you’d like just the images in the album, or a scrapbook style with handwritten notes, drawings and other items stuck in. If you’ve had a newborn shoot, you might want to include some messages from cards you’ve received, or a scan photo with your maternity photos. Tell your story not just through the images but also through your presentation in the album.

SO…

Don’t just let your images sit on a hard drive somewhere or limited only to your phone lock screen. Let them out - print them, show them off, enjoy them every day! And have them there to look back on as time moves on, children grow, life changes, and you can use those images as your teeny time time machines back to these days.
